Families looking for a stress-free day out on two wheels now have more options than ever in West End, where local authorities have boosted investment in dedicated cycle routes aimed at novice riders and the youngest cyclists. The newly extended riverside greenways and traffic-calmed lanes are attracting families for leisurely journeys well away from fast cars and busy intersections.

Active Neighbourhoods, Safer Journeys

The surge in interest comes as city data shows a steady rise in recreational cycling: West End Park Trust noted a 21% increase in bike usage along the Riverwalk Trail between April 2025 and March 2026, the biggest jump in the central borough. Public health advocates have pointed to local cycling’s role in social connection and childhood confidence-a particularly resonant message as families search for alternatives to screen time and congested commutes.

Two of the most popular local routes are the South Quay Park Loop and the Musgrave Street Bikeway.
