Municipal Services Funding Bill Sets 2027 Start Date for Paddington Bne Allocations

Residents who use the main branch on weekends will notice the new schedule starting in February once staffing adjustments are complete.
Local advocates note that the bill requires councils to publish quarterly expenditure summaries on their websites within 30 days of each payment. This reporting rule applies to every recipient municipality and covers both capital projects and operating costs.
Next steps and payment schedule
The Productivity Commission has found that similar formulas in other jurisdictions produced measurable changes in service levels within nine months of the first transfer. The legislation states that the initial transfer will total 3.8 million dollars for the Paddington Bne area based on 2025 census counts.
The government says the policy will require councils to submit audited service reports by 15 December 2026 before the second payment is released. Analysts expect the first visible work, such as road patching crews, to begin in March once contracts are awarded under the new rules.
